Writing this review of the movie that's 11 months away from this writing and still in production is a strange thing to do. I really have nothing to gauge except that I know who's directing the movie, who's starring in the movie and the roles they are playing. In fact, I really shouldn't be writing this.
But I am because I was motivated to do it. First thing is because we created an entire page on our Wildsoundmovies site filled with 100s of photos of the film plus BIOS of all the performers. I did this to create hits in the future and gain a nice google search rating when the buzz really begins in the early summer of 2012. There's no doubt in my mind that this is going to be a huge movie. Perhaps the biggest grossing film of all-time if the film is actually any good and the word of mouth spreads into the older generations and female croud. So I'm preparing ahead. I've jumped on the band wagon early. Like a Wall Street trader jumps on a new stock because it believes in the company and sees big financial dividends. This review and the pages on the site are an internet investment. I can't see any earnings for a while, but I'm banking on it to happnn.
I first heard about The Dark Knight Rises when one of our videobloggers, Emily, drove from Toronto to Pittsburgh with her friend to appear as an extra in the football scene at the Steelers field. She was telling me all about it, sitting the stands and watching these NFL guys that she never heard of before (Roethlisberger, Ward etc.. "I think these guys are a big deal in this city." she remarked!) playing a game of football in Gotham uniforms while Nolan and the gang filmed them. So her and her friend sat in the stands for two days getting paid for what their room and board will eventually cost them, just so they can be close to this Batman movie and say that they were there. Perhaps even tell their future kids and grandkids about it in later years.
This story shocked me for a few reasons:
#1, I can't believe that one of our videoblogger's doesn't know who Ben Roethlisberger is! I mean, who am I hiring these days.
#2, Why is Nolan putting a football scene in this movie? Doesn't he realize that his core audience, the fanboys, don't know a football was if it was right in front of them? My videoblogger girl is example 1. Won't that upset his base? After all these football guys are the ones who made fun of all those fanboys in high school. Some even got the old toilet in the head treatment from them, which haunts them for life. So putting a football scene in with their favorite idealistic superhero for them is like mixing chocolate with cauliflower. Perhaps Nolan knows that football is king in America, which will please most people watching it, and that the fanboys are going to this movie no matter if it's a 2 hour blank screen.
And #3, this movie is going to be HUGE. And everyone wants to say that they were apart of it. It my blogger is going to travel 7 hours to sit in the stands and watch people film a scene, then that tells me everything I need to know.
And that is why this is the first official review of The Dark Knight Rises on the internet.
I don't know how the movie is going to be, but I know it's going to make a whole lot of money. The only thing that can stop Batman this time is the end of the world. And 2012 is supposed to be the end. So you never know.
